Hebrews 6 & 10 – The Impossibility of Salvation – Part 29

Hebrews 6 & 10 – The Impossibility of Salvation – Part 29

An unsaved person is ABLE to love his friends – other sinners.

An unsaved person is NOT ABLE to love his enemies, except for in ONE WAY! He receives his enemies!

He converts. He becomes a brother. … He believes the gospel!

A saved person loves his enemies (lost people) when he gives them the gospel!

Leviticus 19:17 Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.

To hate a person is to NOT rebuke them and give them the gospel, but to allow them to continue in their sins.

But to love a person, is to rebuke them… to give them the WORDS of truth… to speak to save that person’s soul.

Proverbs 17:9  He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.

Covering transgressions SPIRITUALLY, is New Testament, Bible salvation (Psalms 32:1-2, Romans 4:6-8)

Forgiving and covering men sins with the PREACHING of the blood of Jesus Christ – THAT is LOVE.

Proverbs 10:12  … love covereth all sins.

1 Peter 4:8  … charity shall cover the multitude of sins.

What is “charity”? – How is it different from “love”?

Generally, charity is a specific action of love, giving your things away to people, completely free, in order to feed them; to build them up.

1 Corinthians 8:1 … Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.

True spiritual charity is giving spiritual things, God’s things (1 Cor 2:9-14)… giving TRUTH, wisdom, God’s words, to feed souls – to win and to grow Christians in grace.

Laying down, giving for free, the doctrine of Jesus Christ, for the brethren… That is TRUE love – true charity – which covers ALL SINS.

Ephesians 4:15-16 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:  16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

To truly love “the brethren” is to edify (to feed) the body of Christ with DOCTRINE!

To get saved and to save others. To get wisdom, and to give wisdom. That is TRUE LOVE.

The ability to give, for free, the TRUE good things… the result of salvation… this is “the end” of salvation.

1 Timothy 1:5 Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

Salvation results in producing fruit (giving the words of eternal life) out of a PURE HEART.

But not fleshly fruit… Not the giving of fleshly things… but of spiritual things.

And that is exactly that Peter is talking about in our problem text! Giving the truth (“charity”) out of a pure heart.

1 Peter 1:22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

Listen: “a pure heart” is not in the flesh of any man on this planet. Not one fleshly work that you do, not one thought that you have, comes out of “a pure heart”.

No matter how sincere and innocent your motivation is, your heart, that you operate with, in this world, is not “a pure heart”.

Psalms 24:3-5  Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?  4  He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.  5  He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

Unless you are able of your own power, to ascend into heaven, then you do not have “a pure heart” in you today.

“A pure heart” is a PERFECT, sinless heart (Pro 20:9), which is only created, in Christ, at salvation:

Acts 15:7-9 And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.  8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;  9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

Only a Christian has a PURE HEART. Only a Christian can produce “charity out of a pure heart”, to purify other men’s hearts, by speaking the gospel to them. THAT is true, unfeigned love, out of a pure heart.

To TRULY love a person is to SPEAK, to PREACH the truth, to save their SOUL!

Mark 10:17-23  And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?  18  And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.  19  Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.  20  And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth. 21  Then Jesus beholding him loved him, [THEN!!! Notice that THEN, afterwards, Jesus loved him. None of THAT fleshly wisdom, giving the truth of the OLD Covenant, was TRUE love!]  and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.  22  And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.  23  And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!

By Bible standards how exactly did Jesus “LOVE HIM”???

He didn’t give him any food or clothing. (Deu 10:18 – “in giving him food and raiment”)

Jesus didn’t give him any earthly possessions.

He didn’t heal his flesh.

He didn’t give him a job. He didn’t teach him any new skills.

Jesus didn’t give Him ANYTHING physical!

He didn’t motivate him to read his Bible and pray.

He didn’t teach him any techniques for fighting against his lusts.

He didn’t improve his life on earth, AT ALL! Nor, did Jesus OFFER to improve his life, at all!

Jesus did nothing but SPEAK to him, ONE TIME.  Jesus didn’t continue to love the young rich man daily.

He loved him, ONCE! In one act: He SPOKE to him. One time!

He told him the one thing he needed to do to obtain, to ENTER INTO, the kingdom of God.

He told him the one thing he needed to do, to be saved.

To told him the one thing that he needed to OBTAIN, that he did not already HAVE: Heavenly things!

That is TRUE LOVE!

And THAT is what we are created, and purified, and called (Gal 5:13-14, Col 3:24-25, 2Pe 1:3-8) to do as well.

John 15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

Jeremiah 31:2-3  Thus saith the LORD, The people which were left of the sword found grace in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest.  3  The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.

To truly love someone, you have to give them GRACE, to cause them TO REST.

To love men with true, unfeigned love, you have to love them “WITH AN EVERLASTING LOVE”: by giving them the gospel of GRACE WITHOUT WORKS! The gospel of grace… WITH REST!

That is TRUE, UNFEIGNED LOVE of the brethren!
